A historical town like Nafplion has countless sights worth a visit. Every visitor will be satisfied.

Bourtzi

The Venetian fortress Bourtzi (Castello dello Soglio, 1471) is the landmark of the town. A tall octagonal tower surrounded by semicircular towers on a small island, reachable by boat from the port.

Palamidi

An imposing 18th-century Venetian fortress with eight bastions and 857 stairs. The Greek hero Theodoros Kolokotronis was imprisoned here. Breathtaking views from the top.

Akronafplia

The ancient Acropolis of Nafplio, a rocky peninsula with three levels of fortifications extended by the Romans, Franks, Venetians and Turks.

Monuments

The Bavarian Lion — Carved in a rock in 1936 by German sculptor Siggel.

Monument of D. Ypsilantis — Constructed in Vienna, placed in Constitution Square (1843).

Statue of Kapodistrias — By sculptor M. Tompros (1933). Greece's first government took its oath here.

Archaeological Museum

Three-storey Venetian building (1713) with significant collections from the Prehistoric and Mycenaean periods.
